Our Treatment Options
We are dedicated to providing our patients with compassionate and conscientious care. We treat you like family and will work with you to help you succeed; why just live when you can thrive!
Nutrition
Adequate nutrition is the foundation of healthy living, and its importance cannot be overstated. We offer a variety of meal plans that are designed to be sustainable and enjoyable. Moreover, we work closely with you to develop a meal plan that fits your goals and lifestyles.
“Let food be thy medicine, thy medicine shall be thy food.” – Hippocrates
Physical Activity
Physical activity is an important aspect of healthy living. While most people achieve minimal weight loss with physical activity alone, the combination of appropriate nutrition and physical activity produces superior results. We will work with you to develop a physical activity regimen that you enjoy and can incorporate into your everyday life.
“Exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, attitude and your mood”- Unknown
Pharmacotherapy
Just like antihypertensives are used to treat hypertension and diabetes, medicines are used to treat diabetes mellitus. We, too, use FDA approved weight loss medications and a few off-label medications to help you achieve your weight loss and wellness goals. While medications are one of the tools we have in our arsenal, they are used in conjunction with other therapeutic options to achieve the best results possible. Medications can help with satiety, decreasing the feelings of hunger and increasing metabolism. We monitor you closely for side effects and offer alternatives, as needed.
“To get rich, never you risk your health. For it is the truth that health is the wealth.” -Richard Baker
Sleep
Adequate sleep is an important part of our program. Without high-quality rest, your treatment plan will have a limited effect. Lack of sleep leads to an increase in hunger hormones and a decrease in your fullness hormones. Sleep deprivation also triggers a stress response in the body, causing higher levels of stress hormones and ultimately leading to metabolic dysfunction. We collaborate with you to develop strategies for getting a good night rest. There are multiple illnesses that can affect your quality of sleep such as obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, etc., and we will refer you to a PCP if any of these illnesses are diagnosed.
“A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor’s book.” — Irish Proverb
Emotional Wellbeing/Behavioral Change/Stress
Obesity is a neurobehavioral state where our behaviors are affected by neurotransmitters and hormone; hence, there is a need to change certain health behaviors that are detrimental to our success and goal.
We teach you ways to problem solve, to overcome barriers, and also to achieve your desired goals. Using some principles of cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, we give you tools to recognize these barriers before they occur and to circumvent them. We also help you identify stressors in your life and teach you numerous coping strategies.
“Wellness encompasses a healthy body, a sound mind and a tranquil spirit. Enjoy the journey as you strive for wellness.”— Laurette Gagnon Beaulieu
